Nuun is looking for an Art Director with a strong digital skillset to join our marketing team. A successful candidate will have experience as a strategic visionary for a brand, concepting and executing digital projects (including production), and mentoring a design team. This dual role will function as strategic visual lead (30%) and as individual contributor (70%), so the ability and willingness to both direct and execute deliverables is mandatory. This role requires a minimum of 6 years of design experience with at least 2 years of experience specific to digital, and a passion for an active lifestyle is a plus.


  • Be the brand visionary and expert, hold brand standards high across all deliverables and communication
  • Guide and inspire the team (Sr. and Jr. Designer) to design next-level solutions for all brand touchpoints (advertising, digital, event/experiential, packaging, collateral, apparel, point of purchase, e-mail marketing and other deliverables)
  • Lead 2 direct reports (Sr. and Jr. Designer) and perform managerial duties
  • Act as director, designer, and producer on individual contributor projects: Incorporate the brand’s look and feel in to your own independent deliverables
  • Know the consumer and the marketplace, actively seek knowledge and information necessary to create the most impact
  • Collaborate with Sr. Marketing Manager, Marketing Director, and VP of Marketing to develop visual brand strategy
  • Solve communication challenges with visual solutions
  • Communicate project status updates and deadlines in a proactive and timely manner
  • Manage and prioritizes projects efficiently to balance multiple deliverables and goals all at once
  • Presents work to stakeholders effectively to map strategy to execution

Education + Experience

  • B.A. or B.S. in graphic design, art or related field or equivalent academic and work experience required
  • Professional level knowledge of industry standard design software and tools including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and InDesign, Flash, Premier
  • Basic knowledge in html/css is a plus
  • Photography/videography skills a plus (photo: product and studio primarily, video: primarily for use on social media)
  • Six+ years experience as a designer for a brand or marketing firm, including a minimum of two years or equivalent in digital


  • Strong strategic design skills as well as hands-on experience with content production, layout, editing, web production, and photography
  • Demonstrated understanding of design for digital, design for experiential (in-retail or at-event), and design for brand
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Desire and ability to manage, mentor, and develop a Jr. and Sr. Graphic Designer
  • Innate and strong attention to detail, organizational, and time management skillset
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with a high degree of collaboration and influence
  • Bring a positive, enthusiastic, and solution-oriented attitude to all challenges
  • Be resourceful, be scrappy, and lead by example
