I work at a school as a School Counselor in a very impoverished area where the challenges are great and varied. It is a great place and I think we do really good things for kids, although due to all of the challenges kids face daily I often need a release...insert running and soccer. I have played sports my whole life and after college and graduate school I needed to find a new activity after the long days. I fell into running more seriously and haven't stopped logging miles since. I love the feeling out in the woods or the cadence I feel when putting in the miles with my pup. It's a love I don't ever see going away! When I'm not running or playing soccer, I'm normally hanging out with friends or my family. I have an awesome niece and nephew who I love playing silly games with in my free time. They will always put a smile on my face even after a long hard day.
I have run 6 marathons, multiple relay races and constantly log 30+, 40+, 50+ miles weekly. I love getting outside and feeling the pavement under my feet, even if the Portland rain is pouring down around me. It is my time! I also play a lot of soccer and sub for any needed team. I have been playing soccer since I was 5 and love the team feeling out on the pitch all together. I play with some amazing people currently and think I get so much out of working with all of them. They seem to teach me more about myself as an athlete then I could on my own. When I'm not running or playing soccer, I try to squeeze in time at the gym. I love trying new classes or even just making it to the spinning or weight lifting classes for a cross training activity. These may not seem like accomplishments to others, but to me they stand out as showing my commitment to my teams, running group and myself. I love being part of a bigger fitness community!
