I've been running since I was 11, running ultra-marathons since 2006, and hope to call myself a runner for the rest of my life. It's how I stay sane and it's a great way to see parts of the world you wouldn't see otherwise. Originally from the midwest, and after a 6-year stint in DC, I now call Portland, Oregon home, and plan to be an Oregonian for life, with maybe a few brief stints around the world thrown in to keep life in balance. I work for an international non-profit, so through work, racing, and other travel, I've been lucky enough to visit around 40 countries. Exploring new places, especially on foot, is a passion of mine. To date, the running accomplishment I'm most proud of is winning the 2012 100K World Championship. It was just a dream day where everything came together. Wearing the USA uniform is like no other experience and winning both individual and team gold for the USA left me on a high unlike any I've experienced. It took me a few months to stop randomly breaking out into a grin. I'm looking forward to a number of gorgeous and challenging ultra distance races in the US and overseas in 2014, including the El Cruce Columbia stage race that happened in February in Patagonian Chile, the 100K Patagonia Run in Argentina in April, Comrades Marathon in South Africa on June 1, and Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run, held the last Saturday in June in California. I drink Nuun for training and recovering and also love to take it along while I travel to stay hydrated on all of those long flights!
