After a childhood spent skiing and surfing, Jack found his passion for bikes when he first became friends with one of the top BMX riders in the Western U.S. After that introduction, he spent several years racing downhill MTB, reaching the US elite national circuit, but suffered a terrible injury at the U.S. National Championships. Cycling then took a backseat to school and recovery over the next year and a half before an opportunity to move to Europe delayed it one more year.
It was during his recovery from his injury where he began to swim, run and study the human body from a performance and energy perspective. In the summer of 2000, cycling returned to the center of his life, but he had transitioned to a cross country MTB and road cycling racer and competed all over Europe until 2005.
After returning to the USA that year, he found a great spot to transition to triathlon (Austin and graduate school). From there it has been a journey from the first sprint to competing in 8 Ironman races and winning quite a few races along the way. The MTB still plays a big part in his life and XTERRA events are a big focus (US and World Championships).
In his nearly 20 year racing career, he was won over 50 races and competed in many national and world championship events.
