My name is Willie Gillis. In January 2011, I weighed 492 pounds. Fast forward two years later and I lost 300 pounds. I never thought I would be athletic because I was always the funny fat kid. After losing the excess weight, I've learned to love life and to appreciate the things that the body can and is meant to do. I'm now a runner and a strength training enthusiast. I'm an avid traveler with my wife Angela who also lost 200 pounds. We run races together and we're exploring the country while running.
So far, I've done over 20 half marathons and 2 full marathons. I always told myself that I would only do half marathons. My first half marathon was a Rock and Roll San Diego in May 2013. When the time to do a marathon came up, I jumped on it. My first marathon was the St. Jude Marathon in Memphis (my hometown) in December 2014. My second marathon was the Little Rock marathon in March 2015.
