Achieving Goals in the New Year - Tips from Nuunies

Setting goals is easy, but sticking to them is tough. According to a 2017 study, 89% of people who set new year's resolutions didn’t think they would achieve their goal. Right off the bat, people aren’t confident in achieving the goal they’re setting. It makes you wonder, why set a goal if you don’t think you’ll achieve it?

Well, like we said, it’s easier to set a goal than it is to stick to it. But let’s not forget about the 19% of people who believed they could achieve their resolution.

What’s the secret? We asked some of our goal-achieving Nuunies their tips and tricks to setting and sticking to a goal.

Form Habits

Joshua Bell, Nuun’s Creative Director, advises folks not to rely on motivation alone. "Motivation is temporary. Discipline is a better driver. It is learned and established, and relies on forming good habits. So focus on staying disciplined, even when you're not feeling super motivated,” he said.

How do you nail down discipline and habit? There are many tips and tricks to train your mind. Our brains are adaptable, able to change habits and learn new things.

If you’re struggling to find discipline, consider creating a support system around you to hold you accountable. “For me, training with friends is fun and also having the commitments means I will make the time for the training,” said Gillian Hall, Field Marketing Vancouver. “It’s important to get the training in if you want to enjoy a race. So my plan for success is lots of bike and trail miles with friends.”

Keep Going

If you’ve found yourself sinking in the I-didn’t-achieve-my-goal quicksand: slow down and reset. “Remind yourself of the process, all the highs, and lows and how much you had to overcome just to be able to go after a goal,” said Vishal Patel, Director of Product Development. There will always be roadblocks in your path, but keep the finish line in mind. If you find yourself in a motivation pickle, here are 5 tips for sticking to your resolutions.

Nuun is filled with individuals setting goals to be the best versions of themselves. Whether it’s training to run a marathon, taking care of their health and wellbeing, or trying a new hobby: these folks are motivated!

Stay positive, stay hydrated, and don’t give up. You CAN achieve your goals!
